Drop Installation Fundamentals

THE CORE TO NETWORK RELIABILITY

As technical leaders in the industry, SCTE and CommScope have developed a training opportunity on the best practices for broadband installation and troubleshooting. The course, Drop Installation Fundamentals: The Core to Network Reliability, provides a dual benefit of helping installers achieve the highest standards of professional craftsmanship while equipping cable operators with a confident workforce that can promote and ensure the reliability of their networks. The course is being offered through SCTE's 68 chapters and meeting groups. Using an SCTE Pd (Professional Development)-approved curriculum, CommScope instructors lead the course in one four-hour session. 

Course Objectives

  • Recognize basic analog cable network configurations
  • Describe how signal flows from the network to the customer's television
  • Demonstrate proper basic cable handling
  • Demonstrate proper basic cable preparation
  • Demonstrate connectorization techniques of cables used within the drop system
  • Distinguish passive and active devices within the customer's premises

  • Experienced Installers interested in refreshing and enhancing their skills

  • CommScope will be paying for SCTE memberships as part of the program.  In order to be eligible, the individual must not be a current SCTE member, must pass the class (both written and drop portions) and submit a membership application at the end of the class. 

* All participants attending the Drop Installation Fundamentals course should bring the drop cable tools they currently use on the job:
• Drop preparation tool
• Diagonal side cutters
• Compression tools
The class leader will inspect the tools to determine if any need to be replaced.
